WORKSHOPS:
Workshops could be based on any of Christal’s existing patterns.
(The list is extensive…with hundreds of designs.) If you know of a pattern that you would like to have Christal teach, ask for details. Otherwise, the following is a suggested list, divided into skill levels:
**Beginner:
“PET SHOP QUILT” Any quilt from the Pet Shop Series which features cats or dogs. Designs are based on squares, half-squares and quarter-square triangles with some appliqué. Machine piecing and some appliqué. One pattern per student is included.
“HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS” Any quilt from Christal’s first book, Holiday Happenings. Designs are based on basic log cabin blocks with some appliqué. Machine piecing and some appliqué. Pattern is included.
“WOOL APPLIQUE” Learn the techniques for easy hand appliqué with the blanket stitch to create a project in a day. Choices include penny rugs, seasonal coaster sets, small “candle mats.” No machines. Class may opt for Christal to provide kits at an additional charge.
Pattern is included.
**Intermediate to Advanced
“CREATIVE DESIGN LOG CABIN” Learn easy techniques to design one-of-a-kind log cabin quilts based on the traditional square. Design a unique geometric or pictorial design. Work on paper, special graph paper and fabric swatches.
Note: This can be a 2 day workshop with a machine piecing class on day two…or just a one day design focused class.
“SPLITTING LOGS” Christal’s innovative piecing techniques include the traditional log cabin block and many others including “sawed logs”, “split logs,” “rounded logs,” “pictorial” and “knots in the log.” This mixed variety of log cabin block types may be used to assemble a log cabin sampler quilt.
“APPLIQUED QUILTS FROM PHOTOGRAPHS” Use your photos as a basis for an appliquéd quilt. Class includes transfer of photo to pattern, discussion of appliqué techniques, layering, quilting and fabric selection. (Class taught in a quilt shop is helpful!) No machines required since this is primarily a pattern drafting class.
“PATTERN BASED CLASSES”: students would be using existing patterns such as “LOVE NEST,” “SWEET HARMONY,” “SCARECROW,” or other large quilts from her books. Note these are large projects and will not be completed in class. The focus will be on completing the unusual blocks, accurate block sizing and discussion of appliqué and finishing details. Machines required.
**LECTURE FEE: $300 and option to sell books and patterns
**WORKSHOP FEE: 6 hour class $300 and option to sell
